We regularly monitor forecasts so we can respond to potential flooding in South Park during high tide and wet weather season.
January 11-18 is a high tide period and weather forecasts now indicate that a low-pressure system will arrive Wednesday, January 17, about 9:00 a.m. Because low pressure increases the likelihood of flooding impacts in South Park, SPU has partially activated its South Park Emergency Response Plan.
SPU staff will be on the ground Tuesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 17, to monitor conditions and perform the following work:
- Mobilizing pumps and hoses to be able to drain any areas that may become inundated with water
- Closing openings along the flood control wall, if needed, in response to flooding levels.
- Restocking sandbags for residents and businesses
If there is a major flooding event, urgent notifications will be sent via AlertSeattle, the City of Seattle’s official emergency alert system, so please sign up for alerts at https://alert.seattle.gov/.
