Crown Hill Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Lifted
Water Service Completely Restored and Confirmed Safe to Drink
Water service has been restored to the Crown Hill neighborhood following a water main break that impacted nearly 3,000 households and businesses late Wednesday night. Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) crews repaired the broken main Thursday afternoon, and water service was gradually restored to the area Thursday evening while the main was refilled.
After completing flushing of the repaired main and surrounding areas and conducting testing for any potential contamination, SPU has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory, confirming the water is safe to drink.
“Protecting public health and safety is our top priority,” said Alex Chen, Deputy Director for SPU’s Water Line of Business. “We appreciate the Crown Hill neighborhood’s assistance while we repaired the main and made sure our water is free from contaminants.”
SPU provides some of the best drinking water in the nation, ensuring Seattle water is safe, protected, great-tasting, and “pure from the start.”

Update, 3 pm, April 3:
Crown Hill Boil Water Advisory Extended Through Saturday
Water Service Expected to Be Restored by Late Thursday Evening
SPU crews are working to restore water service to the Crown Hill neighborhood as quickly and safely as possible following a water main break that impacted nearly 3,000 households and businesses late Wednesday night. The broken main has now been repaired, and water service is being restored gradually in the area and should be complete for most customers by late Thursday evening. Customers could experience varied water pressure as the main is refilled.
As a precaution, residents and businesses in the affected area with restored water service are still advised to boil water before drinking it or use bottled water through Saturday.
SPU will start flushing the water main around 4 p.m. today, which may cause temporary discoloration and sediment. Additionally, water quality testing will be conducted over the next 48 hours to ensure the water is safe to drink.
An update will be provided when the precautionary boil water advisory is no longer in place.
Water Outage in Seattle Crown Hill Neighborhood—Boil Water Advisory
Customers asked to boil tap water as a precaution

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) crews are working to restore water to the Crown Hill neighborhood after a water main break occurred around 10:30 p.m. on April 2. Approximately 3,000 households and businesses are affected.
SPU crews are working to repair the 16-inch water main, determine the cause of the break, and restore water service as quickly and safely as possible. As a precaution, SPU is asking customers in the area to boil their water before drinking or use purchased bottled water.
The area affected by the break is listed below:
- South border: NW 83rd St
- North Border: NW Woodbine Way
- East border: 9th Ave NW
- West border: Valmay Ave NW – 23rd Ave NW
The notice to boil tap water is a precaution. The loss of water pressure can create the risk of contaminants entering the pipes, either through leaks or as a result of water flowing backwards from homes and businesses into the water system. SPU estimates it will take up to 48 hours before tests have been completed to confirm the water is safe to drink.
Residents and businesses in the affected area are advised to use boiled water, or purchased bottled water, for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. For best results, bring tap water to a rolling boil for 1 minute, then let it cool and pour it into a clean container.
Tap water can be used for bathing, but do not drink any of the water and do not allow babies to put the water or wet washcloth in the mouth.
SPU will provide updates throughout the repairs on the At Your Service blog and social media: Facebook, Instagram, and X/Twitter. Customers with questions can call SPU Customer Service at: 206-684-3000. More information is available at the Boil Water page on AlertSeattle.
