SPU delivering services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout 2023. As we exit 2023, we are proud to highlight key SPU achievements in SPU’s 2023 Recap, which shows how our talented and dedicated staff have been working in partnership with our customers communities to make an impact in Seattle and the region. In 2023, we:
- Delivered more than a thousand new water services, hundreds of spot sewer repairs, and millions of reliable garbage/recycling/compost collections.
- Helped customers receive almost $5 million in COVID relief and emergency assistance.
- Accelerated our urgent work on Climate Change through our Stop Food Waste program, South Park Flood Control work, and more.
- Helped keep Seattle clean and safe by disposing of millions of pounds of illegal waste.
- Completed construction of a 2.7-mile storage tunnel for the Ship Canal Water Quality Project, the Alki Pump Station 38, the South Park Pump station, and other infrastructure investments.
- Activated the Water Shortage Contingency Plan to reduce regional water use to benefit both people and fish.
- Invested in Seattle’s workforce through hiring, apprenticeship, internship programs, community investment strategies.
