Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for ways to help beautify and improve your neighborhood? Seattle Public Utilities has all the tools you need to participate with our flexible volunteer opportunities. Through the Adopt-A-Street and Adopt-A-Drain programs, along with Storm Drain Stenciling, you can have a positive impact on the environment in your own backyard.

Stop by any of our upcoming events to pick up an Adopt-A-Drain Kit, a Storm Drain Stenciling Kit, or an Adopt-A-Street Litter Kit:

By volunteering with Adopt-A-Street, you can keep Seattle streets litter-free! This grassroots litter-removal program mobilizes thousands of volunteers who clean up hundreds of miles of Seattle’s city streets.

Adopting a Drain can help reduce flooding and ponding during wet weather by clearing leaves and debris from around the drain and next to the curb. These same storm drains can also be stenciled to raise awareness in your community & prevent pollution upstream. When it rains, the fallen water picks up pollutants from the ground on its way to storm drains. This runoff then proceeds to flow into nearby creeks, lakes, and Puget Sound. A stenciled drain reminds the community that what goes into the drain will end up in local waterways directly affecting wildlife and people. When people make the storm drain connection, they are less likely to dump pollutants like soaps, paints, antifreeze, and used motor oil into storm drains. Have questions? These programs offer COVID-safe volunteering opportunities that directly impact your neighborhood and are a great fit for individuals, families, and small groups.
