With the holiday season just around the corner, we wanted to share an important reminder to customers about our services.
Garbage, recycling, and food/yard waste will not be collected on the following upcoming holidays :
- Thanksgiving (11/26/2020)
- Christmas (12/25/2020)
- New Year’s Day (1/1/2020)
On those days, and for the remainder of the week, service will be delayed one day. For example, if your regular collection day is Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving), you should place your bins out on Friday, November 27. If your regular collection day is Friday, place your bins out on Saturday, November 28.
2020 Holiday Collection Schedule:
Other schedules that will be impacted by upcoming holidays:
- The City of Seattle’s North and South Transfer Stations will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Snow/Ice Collection Delays
During the winter season, snow and icy roads may prevent Seattle Public Utilities’ contracted haulers from collecting garbage, recycling, or food/ yard waste. Collection trucks can weigh up to 30 tons and cannot safely navigate icy streets the same way our cars can. In the case of severe weather, there are several places to go to find out whether your collection has been postponed:
- Seattle Public Utilities’ Website: seattle.gov/utilities
- Seattle Public Utilities’ Blog: atyourservice.seattle.gov
- SPU’s Social Media Accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
- Sign up for Seattle Public Utilities alerts through AlertSeattle:
alert.seattle.gov - Download the Recycle It app: seattle.gov/recycleit
- Posted Updates via Nextdoor.com
Thank you for your patience as we see more inclement weather and navigate our holiday schedule.
