SPU Celebrates America Recycles Day All Week Long

This year we’re diving deep into recycling for America Recycles Day.  Kicking off on Monday, November 15th, and going through Friday, November 19th, we’ll be answering the most common questions about confusing items, dealing with hard to recycle stuff, and a few tips and tricks that can help make sorting a little easier. Follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) or visit us a local grocery store to stock up on recycling knowledge.

Follow us all week as we tackle these recycling conundrums:

  • If recyclables need to be Empty, Clean and Dry –  How clean is clean?
  • When in Doubt, Find out – How to recycle those things that can’t go in your home recycling?
  • Plastic Bags- Where do they go? (spoiler alert, NOT in the recycling cart!)
  • Meet the Top 5 – We focus on the 5 most important items to recycle
  • FOTO (Fear of Throwing Out) – Dealing with the anxiety of throwing things in the garbage that don’t belong in the recycling. FYI, the items below ALWAYS go in the garbage:
    • Diapers, pet waste, and bubble mailers
    • Personal protective equipment: wipes, masks, and gloves
    • Tangled items: hoses, cords, and clothes hangers

Even though recycling is getting some extra love this week, remember it’s something you can do every day that helps make an impact on the environment. It saves resources and puts them to use as new items.

We get that recycling can be confusing sometimes, so remember – we’re here to help!

You can look up 1000s of items on our Where Does It Go tool or send us your questions in our social feeds (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) or at AskEvelyn@seattle.gov

Thanks for Recycling Right!
