School Program Gets Award

The Washington Green Schools program received the Environmental Education Association of Washington’s Organizational Excellence Award for its promotion of environmental stewardship.

Thirty-one Seattle primary and secondary schools participate in Washington Green Schools, which provides a free web-based structure, tools and resources to help schools reduce their environmental footprint and utility costs.

Student leadership and community service are key program goals. Each school evaluates and takes steps to promote energy efficiency, increase recycling, reduce solid waste and toxic substances, improve indoor and outdoor air quality, promote efficient transportation, protect water quality and encourage conservation.

Any K-12 school in Washington can participate.
