Get in the Game with Recycle Madness this March

This March get in the game with Ask Evelyn Live’s Recycle Madness! Taking a page from college basketball’s playbook, SPU’s weekly live-streaming recycling advice show will pit the most confusing recyclable items against each other throughout the month of March, to find out which is the most maddening item to recycle in Seattle.

Things kick off on Wednesday, March 2nd when our hosts, SPU subject matter experts and trash-talking waste nerds, Becca Fong, Pat Kaufman, and special guest cohost Jemini Davis, will present the seeded items they’ll be covering all month long. Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun by downloading the Recycle Madness bracket and making their own predictions on how these items will battle it out.

Just like Ask Evelyn Live, Recycle Madness is run on your questions. Items in this tournament are ranked based on how often they were looked up on the Where Does it Go tool by customers, how often they were asked about in your emails and in-person questions, and even the occasional written letter. We know recycling is a priority for Seattleites and we want to help you ensure you’re doing it right – so materials are recycled, reused, and given another life.

How to Play

  • Completed brackets can be submitted via email to AskEvelyn@seattle.gov by 12 noon on March 9th or by via our online submission form. Participants who submit their completed bracket on time will be entered to win SPU recycle swag! You don’t have to be right to win. In your email entry, please include your bracket, name, and clearly print your address. If you’re selected, you’ll received a reusable bag, bin stickers, and other fun swag in the mail from SPU.
  • Participants can also share their bracket with SPU on social media using #SeattleRecycleMadness and tagging our account. Get your household to play along as you all learn more about those hard to recycle items together. *Only emailed brackets will be considered for prizes.
