Litter Doesn’t Have to Look Trashy

With a new year approaching it only seems fitting that Seattle start 2022 with new attractive Garbage and Recycling cans. After all, we do live in one of the most scenic and beautiful places around so why shouldn’t our litter cans reflect that beauty?

Look for these cans first in South Park, Alki, and Capitol Hill the second half of December. More cans will appear in Little Saigon, Othello, and Georgetown the first part of the new year.

The cans are part of a Seattle Public Utilities pilot to reduce litter in neighborhood business districts, reduce vandalism of cans, and discourage illegal dumping.

The beautiful photographs on the cans are the work of the young artists of Youth in Focus. This non-profit program  provides after-school, summer, and partner programs in Digital and Darkroom photography for teens aged 13-19.

If you live or work near one of these cans, please let us know what you think of them at Spu_publiclittercans@seattle.gov. Also, please report any issues you come across with the cans by locating the QR code on the can.
