Garbage, recycling, and food/yard waste are not collected on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day. On those days, and for the remainder of the week, service will be delayed one day. For example, if your regular collection day is Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving), you should place your bins out on Friday, November 29. If your regular collection day is Friday, place your bins out on Saturday, November 30.
2019 Holiday Collection Schedule:
Snow/Ice Collection Delays
During the winter season, snow and icy roads may prevent Seattle Public Utilities’ contracted haulers from collecting garbage, recycling, or food/ yard waste. Collection trucks can weigh up to 30 tons and cannot safely navigate icy streets the same way our cars can. In the case of severe weather, there are several places to go to find out whether your collection has been postponed:
- Seattle Public Utilities’ Website: seattle.gov/utilities
- Seattle Public Utilities’ Blog: atyourservice.seattlemulti.wpengine.com/
- Twitter: @SeattleSPU
- Sign up for Seattle Public Utilities alerts through AlertSeattle:
alert.seattle.gov - Download the Recycle It app: seattle.gov/recycleit
We’ll also communicate via local media and other local online platforms such as Nextdoor.com.
