Bin Changes for Residential Solid Waste Customers

You may have noticed some recent changes to your curbside garbage collection bins. Our contacted haulers, Waste Management & Recology are replacing 20-gallon trash bins with wheeled carts with an insert. The new wheeled carts are easier for you to move to the curb as well as safer for our haulers to load. Carrying heavy bins to the curb can be dangerous. Now you can roll your garbage to the curb with ease and our drivers can use the trucks’ hydraulics to grasp and dump. These bins are being delivered to customers at no additional cost or change to your account.

Waste Management customers with 20-gallon bin collection service are having their bins replaced with wheeled carts starting in February 2019. The new wheeled carts look similar to the 32gallon service carts but have a tan-color insert that reduces the cart’s capacity to 20-gallons.

Recology customers will also be provided a similar wheeled cart to replace their old 20-gallon bins later in the year. We will keep you updated on that rollout coming soon!

Please do not remove your insert. If you would like a larger sized bin, please request one here: https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/services/garbage/change-bin-size or by calling 206-684-3000.

Was your old 20-gallon bin left behind after you got a new wheeled cart? Please contact us at 206-684-3000 or spucustomerservice@seattle.gov.

Do you still have an old 20-gallon bin and haven’t yet received your new wheeled cart? Please contact us at 206-684-3000 or spucustomerservice@seattle.gov.

*Wonder what is happening to the old bins? They’re being recycled to make new bins, trash carts, beverage trays, and other durable items.
