(November 10, 2015) Traffic flow continues to be restricted near the junction of S. Dearborn Street and 8th Avenue. S., where utility crews are working to repair or replace a failed joint on a 24-inch water main.
Currently, three eastbound lanes and one westbound lane are open on S. Dearborn, between 8th Avenue S. and 9th Avenue S. 8th Avenue S. is closed, from Lane Street to S. Dearborn Street.
Crews have been working to identify the source of the leak since yesterday afternoon. Last night they determined that the solder holding the joint together had failed, and that the repair will be more difficult than originally thought. There is no estimate at this time as to when the repair will be completed.
Cause or the joint failure is still unknown.

Westbound traffic is down to a single lane on S. Dearborn, between 8th Avenue S. and 9th Avenue S., and southbound traffic on 8th Avenue S. is also down to one lane, from Lane St. to S. Dearborn Street.
Repairs are expected to take until at least midnight. Cause of the leak is unknown at this time.
