Learn to become a savvy gardener at one of our free classes this fall. You’ll learn how to reduce waste, conserve water, save time and money, and protect our environment and your family’s health – all while growing a beautiful yard.
Fall is a also a great time to:
- Plant trees, shrubs and perennials now for stronger roots next summer.
- Apply mulch to garden beds, to protect roots during freezing weather. Mulching also helps keep winter weeds out, and prevents soil erosion in rainy weather! Good mulch choices include leaves, wood chips, manure and/or compost for garden beds; leaves, straw and/or compost can work well in a food garden.
- Create a healthier lawn by fertilizing with an organic or slow-release fertilizer, aerating if needed, and top-dressing with compost. You’ll see a stronger lawn next spring.
