Free workshops on hidden hazards in the arts

And how to find safer, less toxic materials

Artists and art educators can learn safe storage, disposal and safer chemical at four, free “Hidden Hazards in the Arts” workshops –  coming soon to Seattle, and sponsored by the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County.

The workshops are designed for artists and art educators to help them produce vibrant art while protecting themselves, their families and the environment from toxic, corrosive and flammable chemicals.

Three workshops are hosted by 4Culture at 101 Prefontaine Pl. S., Seattle .

  • Chemical hazards in jewelry, metalsmithing, and printmaking (especially intaglio), Thursday, January 10, 12-2 p.m.
  • Chemical hazards in painting (aerosol spray paint, oil, water, acrylic), encaustic, pastels and adhesives (fixatives, glues, pastes), March 14, 6-8 p.m.
  • Chemical hazards in studio glass (glass blowing, slumping, fusing, grinding, etching and polishing), May 9, 12-2 p.m.

Gage Academy of the Art is hosting a “Hidden Hazards in the Studio” workshop for those who paint, draw or sculpt, January 24, 12:30–1:30 p.m., at 1501 10th Ave. E., No. 101, in the Geo Studio, third floor.
