Bert the Salmon will be at Fisherman’s Terminal helping take back old prescription medicine this Saturday, April 30, from 10 am to 2 pm.
The event is part of National Pharmaceutical Take-Back Day. The day highlights the critical need for ongoing and sustainable safe drug disposal programs.
Bert wants everyone to know that old medicine can harm our environment.
For years, the advice was to flush our drugs or mix them with kitty litter and throw them in the garbage. Flushing drugs sends them directly into our waters, harming the environment. Drugs thrown in the garbage are available for others to take and use, and can still get into the environment. Returning medicines to a take-back program is the only environmentally sound method for disposing of unused medicines.
If you can’t make it to Fisherman’s Terminal, there are other locations around town to drop off your old medicine.
