City Asks Residents to Help Remove Leaves from Storm Drains
Seattle’s food and yard waste, garbage and recycling collections will be on normal schedule for Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) customers should place their containers out by 7 am to ensure collection.
On Veterans Day, the City of Seattle’s North & South Recycling and Disposal Stations will be open during their regular business hours: 8 am to 5:30 pm. The North Recycling and Disposal Station is located at 1350 North 34th Street in the Fremont/Wallingford area. The South Recycling and Disposal Station is located at 8105 5th Avenue South in the South Park area.
Customers can report a missed garbage, yard waste or recycling collection after 6 pm on the day it was missed by calling 206-684-3000 or going online.
To help prevent street flooding, the city is asking Seattle residents to remove leaves from storm drains in their neighborhoods with a rake or broom (if it can be done safely), collect fallen leaves in their yards, and compost or properly dispose of them in yard waste containers.
Residents are invited to sign up to become Adopt-A-Drain volunteers to monitor and keep drains in their community free of debris. Seattle Public Utilities will support volunteers with bags, gloves, rakes and free disposal, but quantities are limited. To join, or for more information call 206-684-7647 or go to www.seattle.gov/util/adoptadrain.
