Seattle Public Utilities Receives Recycling Award

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has received the Washington State Recycling Association’s 2010 Recycler of the Year Award for Public Education.

SPU was recognized for its “Better Recycling” recycling education campaign that informed customers of the changes to their solid waste services that occurred in March 2009.

Recent customer surveys show that SPU’s food and yard waste customers are very satisfied with their new services and increased their food waste diversion by 47 percent in 2009.

The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA), formed in 1976, provides leadership, networking, advocacy and education to foster the expansion, diversity and economic vitality of recycling as part of sustainable resource management. Its 280 member organizations and over 700 individual members include private, community and government recycling agencies, generators of recyclables, collectors, processors, transporters, broker, commodity markets, recycled content product manufacturers, and others.
