Have Fun & Raise Awareness with Storm Drain Stenciling

With many volunteer roles being put on hold due to the health crisis, it can be a struggle to find safe ways to to give back and help our communities. One way we can help is through storm drain stenciling.

Working together to protect our waterways while apart

How does a stencil help?

Stenciling storm drains helps to bring awareness to our friends and neighbors that our waterways connect to our local storm drains. Anything that goes down them, ends up in our streams, lakes, and even Puget Sound. Through this awareness, we’re able to remind and encourage people to keep harmful pollutants like paint, antifreeze, motor oil, and more, out of our storm drains and thus, out of our waterways.

Who can help?

  • Parents looking for new activities to do with your children at home
  • Those living together looking for a way to get outside
  • Individuals wanting to make a difference in the community

Participants will be supplied everything they need by SPU in our storm drain stencil kits. This kit includes water-based spray paint, instructions, a garbage bag, as well as a laminated Volunteer Safety Requirement checklist and activity questions for parents & kids to do together. This is a chance to get outside, give back to your local community, and learn the importance of pollution prevention in our local waterways – while also upholding COVID safety guidelines.

Your safety is our priority. We will be offering ZERO CONTACT Stencil Kit Pick-Up/Drop-Off
