Seattle Public Utilities’ annual Spring Clean event attracted over 600 volunteers to clean up the Chinatown-International District this last weekend.
Volunteers painted out graffiti, picked-up litter, made improvements to community gardens, and painted storefronts. Volunteers included C-ID residents, Seattle City Year Corps, Asian Pacific Community Leadership Foundation, Comcast employees and 21 different community organizations.
The Spring Clean program is in its 29th year supporting neighborhoods and the environment. The Spring Clean program provides free bags, gloves, safety vests, and waste disposal.
The event successfully cleaned up over 200 bags of garbage and compostable items from the C-ID. In addition, over 5 gallons of paint was used to paint out graffiti. With the current momentum, the CIDBDA hopes to promote daily cleaning events and host a new electronics recycling event for both residents and local businesses.
