Students Leading the Way in Conservation

Washington-Green-Schools1Did you know that 66 schools in Seattle have certified as Washington Green Schools? This statewide program offers tools and resources for school communities to reduce waste, recycle, compost, and save money!

Washington Green Schools provides students with the opportunity to develop as environmental leaders, project managers, and team players. They gain skills that will last a lifetime. Students organize themselves into Green Teams. Activities of these student-led groups include starting food waste composting programs in the school’s lunchroom or establishing new energy-saving policies such as turning off computers and electronic equipment.

Washington Green Schools was recently honored with a John Stanford Educational Achievement Award from Forterra, the largest conservation and community building organization in the Northwest. A video was produced as part of the award program
