Kitchen Compost Containers on Sale

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans throw away 25 percent more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day than any other time of the year. A lot of that waste is leftover food.

Seattle Public Utilities encourages residents to curb their wastelines this holiday season and put their leftovers in their food and yard waste cart, where instead of going to the landfill, they’ll be made into compost for local parks and gardens.

To help get residents started, Seattle Public Utilities, Cedar Grove and local retailers are offering big discounts on kitchen compost collectors and compostable bags.

From Nov. 15 to Dec. 15, kitchen compost collectors are on sale for $12.95 plus tax. These popular pails come with a secure lid and a pack of compostable bags that keep odors in and pests out.

Participating retailers include Dunn Lumbers at Normandy Park, Greenlake, Lake Union and Shoreline; West Seattle Junction True Value, Greenwood Hardware, Maple Leaf Ace Hardware City Peoples Mercantile on Sandpoint Way and Sky Nursery.

Go to www.cgcompost.com or call 877-764-5748 for store locations and hours, or to order online and have them delivered to your door for $18.95 plus tax and shipping.
